001 → video

[ it's pretty clear that whoever's putting out this video has little to no idea of what they're doing - not only is it being shot upside down, but it's framed pretty badly, with only one red eye and a few locks of blue hair visible against the familiar backdrop of New Bark Town.

Though it's hard to make out her expression, her one visible eye is a little narrowed and when she starts talking, her voice is understandably nervous. ]

Uh... H--hey... Is this some kinda messed up prank? Mitsuru-san, Akihiko-san, Aigis - or whoever's watchin' this - w--well, it ain't funny, yeah?! I dunno where I am! I ain't never heard of New Bark Town an' I never heard a' no Pokémon either!

And-- an' all this--!

[ she jerks the camera down to point it at her body, revealing the slight build of a high school girl, still dressed in her summer uniform. ]

I don't even wanna know how you did it but-- but just quit it, alright?! [ her voice wavers a little and she sounds almost like she's close to tears. ] Just stop it! It ain't funny at all!

[ there's a little bleat from off camera and then an exceptionally fluffy Mareep wanders into the shot at the girl's feet. She sniffs a little and when she speaks up again, her voice is a little calmer and gentler. ]

Oh -- s'you again. What are you, anyway? Some kinda--?

[ and that's when either her finger slips or something and the video abruptly cuts off. ]

[Shruuuuuug]

I don't really play video games. [Apparently she should???]

Okay, so you can do that. A, uh, friend of mine does Pokemon breeding. It's apparently a really good job if you need money.

My main theories are either...

[There's a bunch of variations of them, but Atsuro decide to stick to the basics.]

...Either a very powerful Pokemon brought us here. Legendary Pokemon are practically like powerful gods in this world, so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary.

Another theory is there's a a time/space hiccup and we got sucked into it, like something out of a sci-fi story! It's more of a phenomenon than someone's fault, but that can be tricky to prove unless we can see it in action.

[Which might be dangerous.]

There's another theory I played around with that we're all kidnapped and get placed inside some sort of virtual reality simulator, which can explain some of the weirder physics in this world.

Yeah, I thought the same, actually.

[ there's a very, very brief smirk of what seems like self-deprecation--or skepticism, perhaps, directed at their overall situation. ]

That's why I only have two. Also they're kind of like children, I guess, so not very interested in going crazy with it.

What's your job? Did they give you one?

[Al chuckles, nodding.] Yeah, they're pretty attached to you from day one. You can find out more about the species in your Pokedex--it's basically an encyclopedia all about Pokemon in that one little machine. [Al's still in awe about that, really--so much information in one tiny little device! So cool!]
loveisanopendoor: (Reassuring)

cute.......

Well, why wouldn't I? You seem like a lovely person! You haven't given me a reason to think that you're not, anyway. I'm more than happy to be friends with you!

[And she definitely does look pretty sincere as she says this! Anna's just that type of girl that'll consider everyone she talks to and believes to be a good person one of her friends.]

Well, there are several ways, but how you go about it depends on what you were assigned to be when you arrived. You can get money from the trainers you battle, but most people get jobs in the different towns.

I am a breeder, and if I needed extra money I can sell the eggs I breed for a profit.

[Of course, thanks to Togami's moneycats, he doesn't have to do that.]

So it...really all depends on what you think you would feel most comfortable doing. Trainers can still breed, but they will not find as many eggs as quickly as a breeder would.

Well, yeah.....

[They're like... eggs, y'know? Which is.... sort of even worse, maybe???]

Uhh, I don't know the exact numbers, but a friend of mine could buy these really expensive things for me without any worry. I guess if you're a breeder, you wont need to worry about money at all.
loveisanopendoor: (Haughty)

[personal profile] loveisanopendoor 2014-12-02 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
Then it's settled! And like I said, if there's anything you need, you can totally count on me!

[Anna looks super proud of herself, on top of being happy to make a new friend! She's more than confident that Labrys is gonna enjoy her time here; after all, the first couple of days are always the biggest hurdle.]

You got a really good partner there with Mareep, too. It's an Electric-type, so it shouldn't have much trouble with most of the Pokemon you'll find when you first start out! It's really good against Flying-types and Water-types. And eventually it'll grow big and strong and evolve twice!

[She takes a Poke Ball out from her bag, and out comes Maa-aa-ary, her big, cuddly Ampharos! It seems just as friendly as her trainer does, contentedly waving at Labrys with its stubby paw..]

This is Maa-aa-aary! After your Mareep grows enough, it changes into a Flaafy, and then an Ampharos like Mary here. Most Pokemon evolve like that, actually! Some changes are a lot bigger than others...
armoredsoul: (Hm...)

[personal profile] armoredsoul 2014-12-03 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah! Well, there were a bunch of Pokemon that showed up from another region of this world a few months ago, and we had to wait to receive data on them, but that was kind of a special case.
loveisanopendoor: (Aww)

[personal profile] loveisanopendoor 2014-12-03 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Flaaffy looks a little bit more like Mareep, only it's pink and it stands upright! And Ampharos don't really look very much like lambs anymore, but they pack a real punch and give off lots of light! I think some people use theirs as beacons in lighthouses because they're so bright...

[It doesn't take him much to shifts into exposition mode. At least it's somewhat better than conspiracy theories mode.]

The easiest example with be the ledges. You seem them a lot on the road and in some cities. You can jump down from them but you can't climb back up. Even if they're not that high, literally no one can climb up the ledges.

That's right. Though...not all Pokemon will actually be able to breed with one another. There are certain groups that each Pokemon fall into, and only those in the same group can produce eggs.

There's no rush. I didn't start breeding until after I was here for a few months...it does take some learning to get used to, after all.

It's not all that different from pets. Just smarter pets, apparently.
